Sitting the CPALE again in May 2027, a review plan that starts from what you forgot

If the results did not go your way, you already know more than you did a season ago. The task now is not to cover everything again. It is to find what faded, and to keep what you win back until May 2027.

Start with one diagnostic in your weakest subject. It takes about fifteen minutes and needs no account.

Start from last season's weak subjects

Your result shows which subjects cost you the most. Begin there, not at the first page of the syllabus. A diagnostic in each weak subject shows which parts you still answer from memory and which you only recognize when you see them.

Find what is fading, not what was covered

Covering a topic once is not the same as keeping it. Rereading feels like learning because the page looks familiar, and that feeling fades in days. Answering from memory, then checking, is what keeps it (Yang and others, 2021, across 222 classroom studies).

On Aefing, a question you answer comes back on a schedule built on your own memory, just before you would forget it. A retention check every three weeks asks questions you have not seen for a week, taken cold, so the number you see is what stayed, not what you just practiced.

Keep a mistake notebook that works by itself

Every miss comes back later the same day and again tomorrow, then on a growing gap until you answer it right on separate days. Misses answered right on separate days hold for weeks after the test (Rawson and Dunlosky, 2011). Save your diagnostic results to a free account and your misses join that schedule at once.

Track the syllabus by what stayed

Follow the CPALE syllabus and pick the May 2027 sitting. Aefing then shows how much of the syllabus your questions cover and, from your retention checks, what you would keep on the day against the pass mark. Mix your subjects in each session; mixed practice holds up better on the day than one subject at a time (Rohrer and others, 2020).

Your next fifteen minutes

  1. Take the diagnostic in your weakest subject above.
  2. Save your results to a free account, so your misses come back tomorrow.
  3. Follow the CPALE syllabus and pick the May 2027 sitting.
  4. Review a little every day. The schedule tells you what is due.
