Follow a course outline

An outline is the list of subjects and parts that a course, a subject or an exam covers, with their weights. In Aefing it is called a syllabus. It holds names only, never questions. You still write every question yourself.

You never need one. Many people only write questions under their own topics. An outline helps when you follow a course or prepare for a test with a known list of subjects, such as a machine learning course, earth science or nursing.

Find the outlines

Open Topics. While you have no topics yet, a line under the page says Following a course, a syllabus or an exam? Start from its subjects. It opens Syllabi. You can also reach Syllabi any time from the button at the top of Topics.

Syllabi has three parts.

  • Following lists the outlines you follow, each with its date and End.
  • Yours lists the outlines you wrote.
  • Ready made lists outlines kept by Aefing, names and weights only.

Start my topics from it

Start my topics from it makes your own empty topics named after the outline's subjects and parts, nested the same way, and links each one to its part. A topic you already have with the same name, in the same place, is used rather than made twice. Then you write the questions under them as usual.

If the outline has sittings, pick yours. Its first day becomes your target date, which spaces your retention checks toward it. A date you set yourself in Settings stays yours.

Follow only follows the outline without making topics, for when your topics already exist.

Link a topic later

Open a topic, then Edit topic. Under Syllabus, pick the part it counts toward and press Link. The topic page then says Counts toward under its name. Unlink takes it away. A topic can count toward one part. Only outlines you follow or wrote are offered.

Write your own outline

Under Yours, give it a title and press Create. Add its parts with a name, and if you like a code and a weight. Drag a part to reorder it or put it under another, or use the arrow keys on its handle. Edit renames a part in place. Archive takes a part and everything under it off the outline; topics linked to it keep their link.

Make a copy gives you a private copy to change. Start my topics from it works on your own outline too.

Results

When an outline has sittings, Settings, Test and exam results shows a form for your sitting, named and dated for you. It is never required.
